Yes! I Want This

With all the holiday festivities, it can be tough to stick to your wellness goals. But with a few tricks, you can stay healthy this party season and have fun doing it, too. Here is my 5 point party survival guide:

Change Your Mind – Forget the all-or-nothing mentality and approach holiday parties in a balanced, mindful way. Don’t worry about eating perfectly, aim to eat smartly.

Scan and Plan – When you arrive at a party, do a quick scan of what’s offered. Ask others what they have tried that is a “must have.” Then fill most of your plate with the healthiest offerings, such as crudité and shrimp cocktail, leaving some room for a taste of the more decadent options that are really worth it.

Make a Plate – Parties lend themselves to grazing and nibbling, which usually means eating more than we need and more than we realize. Instead, make a plate of food and sit down to savor it. You will enjoy it more and likely eat less.

Position Yourself – Standing too close to the food can lead to mindless munching. Situate yourself a safe distance away so you aren’t tempted.

Start a Movement– Crank up some great music and get a group dancing. Before you know it everyone will be joining in. At casual gatherings, rally the troops for a game of flag football or Frisbee. You will have a blast and be better off.

Happy Holidays!
